CeReNeM began the new academic year with two important conferences: Extended Durations (7-8 Sept), and Noise In and As Music (4-6 Oct). Both conferences are associated with new publications with University of Huddersfield Press: Dr Glover and Dr Harrison’s Overcoming Form, due to be released later this month and Noise In and As Music, a collection of articles and interviews edited by Dr Cassidy and Dr Einbond. 28 new postgraduate research students joined the centre in early October (11 Masters by Research and 17 PhD students) taking our total postgraduate community to 53, half of whom are international students from 13 different countries. Our visiting artists this year are: Distractfold Ensemble (UK), Ictus Manama programme (Belgium), Mark Knoop (UK), Peyee Chen (UK), Ashot Sarkissjan (UK), Garth Knox (France) and once again we host a vibrant programme of seminars, workshops and masterclasses.
News of recent graduates:
Dr Nicolas Bernier (PhD, 2013) has been appointed Professor of Digital Music at the prestigious Université de Montréal. His work Frequencies (A), awarded the Golden Nica at this year’s Prix Ars Electronica, is now available on Entr’acte CD (E163), 2013.
Dr Sebastian Berweck (PhD, 2013) has been appointed Lecturer at the Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany. He has forthcoming concerts as solo pianist throughout Germany and a tour to the USA and Canada next April-May 2014.
Dr Tamara Friebel’s (PhD, 2013) ‘media-opera’ Wärme, Ich bin wieder ganz, made in collaboration with video artist Nathalie Latham, will be premiered 14-17 November 2013 in Vienna as part of the World Music Days and Wien Modern Festival.
